Trader Joe's Recalls Mango Tangerine Scented Candles Due To Fire Hazard

In recent years, product recalls have become a regular occurrence as companies work to address safety concerns. The latest recall involves a popular household item from Trader Joe’s, specifically the Mango Tangerine Scented Candle, which has been linked to several fire incidents.

Trader Joe’s Mango Tangerine Scented Candle Recall

Trader Joe’s has announced a recall of approximately 653,000 Mango Tangerine Scented Candles following safety concerns. The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the candles have a dangerous flaw: the flame can spread from the wick to the wax, creating a larger and potentially hazardous fire.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Trader Joe’s received 14 reports of incidents involving unusually high flames with these candles. This includes three cases of minor property damage and two reports of minor burns. The recall affects candles sold in Trader Joe’s stores nationwide starting in June, priced at about $4 each.

The recalled candles are sold in a tin container with white wax and a cotton wick. Each candle weighs approximately 5.7 ounces and has the SKU number 56879 printed on the bottom of the container. If you have purchased one of these candles, you should immediately stop using it and take the following steps to obtain a refund or replacement.

Customers who have purchased the affected Mango Tangerine Scented Candles can return them to any Trader Joe’s store for a full refund of $4. Alternatively, you can complete Trader Joe’s Product Feedback Form online to receive a $4 gift card by mail. If you choose the gift card option, you will need to provide a receipt or a photo of the candle when responding to a follow-up request from Trader Joe’s Customer Relations.

Previous Recalls By Trader Joe’s

This recall is part of a series of product withdrawals Trader Joe’s has dealt with in 2024. Earlier in the year, the grocery chain recalled its Chicken, Lentil & Caramelized Onion Pilaf after concerns that it might contain “foreign material,” specifically rocks. Other products recalled this year include basil, cashews, various cotija cheese products, and Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings. These recalls were due to health risks or contamination issues.

Trader Joe’s has faced several recall situations in the past, including some over the summer of 2023, which involved contamination with insects, rocks, metal, and undeclared allergens.
